Interesting Facts

Things I've observed and/or heard...

I think most of them are true...



G’day is a normal greeting.

Kangaroos are easy to see anywhere; koalas are much harder to spot.

There is less o-zone so you have to wear sunscreen everyday in the summer.

People in Australia have never heard of Outback Steakhouse.

Bars are called Hotels.

Jail is spelled Gaol.

The Queen of England is on the money.

There are only 20 million people on the whole continent.

42% of people in Melbourne weren’t born in Australia.

Water goes down the drain counter clockwise.

The tallest mountain on the whole continent only 7,000 feet, that’s about the same as the highest mountain in Texas.

The English call them POME’s. Prisoners of mother England. But strangely Ozzies call English people POME’s as well.

They call American Football “Gridiron”

They call soccer soccer

They call Australian Rules Football “Footie”

The judges still wear old powder wigs in court. (I’ve seen them walking on the street)

When saying the alphabet for the letter “z” they say “zed” instead of our “zee”

Australia just took over America as the fattest country in the world this year.

80% of the people live on the East Coast. Perth, the biggest city on the west coast, is the most isolated city in the world.
